Help Mii with my Wii!
I would like to hook my Wii up to a projector. The problem is, the projector can only display progressive scan video -- not interlaced.
I've bought the component cables for the Wii which support 480p, but you have to switch the Wii to this video mode via a menu. Until you make the change, the signal goes out as 480i.

I have it hooked up to my TV now, which does support interlaced video, but not progressive. Seems like I could turn on 480p there, and then hook it up to the projector, but the 480p option is greyed out because I'm hooked up with the original cable which only does 480i. I'm caught in a catch-22.

My question: Is there another way to force the Wii to switch over to 480p. Alternately, is there a *cheap* box that can convert the signal for me?

To maximise bulb life, what's the minimum length of time an LCD projector should be turned off for?
Bulbs for my projector are awfully expensive (it's used off and on for about 12 hours per day) and contain mercury, so I want to replace them as rarely as possible.

So how long does a gap between uses need to be before it's worth turning a projector off? If I'm not using it for ten minutes? Thirty minutes? Ninety minutes? (For fluorescents, it's supposed to be 15 minutes, but projector bulbs are super-hot, so I assume undergo much more stress when turned on/off.)

I do try to replace the bulb when the warning message appears, but sometimes bulbs fail before that and sometimes someone else is using it and ignores the message.

Is there a way to switch the display on my Mac G4 to an external projector?
I have an A/V port adapter that plugs into a serial port on a video projector that I often use. Unfortunately once everything is plugged in, the video won't be displayed out the projector.
On PCs I understand there's a display output option (where you can swap between "computer screen" and "external device") under the control panels, but I don't think I've found an appropriate equivalent on my comp.
What's frustrating is that a colleague's Mac works (though his was bought in Taiwan, mine in the US)

More home-theater projector questions. This time, it's eBaytastic. Of course, there's
I've read up on a number of AskMe threads on this subject, so it looks like I'm in the right place to clarify my further confusion on the subject.

I just found a number of exceptional deals for projectors on eBay from highly rated sellers. I've investigated them and found that the projectors are well received by critics and consumer reviews, so I'm good there. My questions stem from the fact that I've never owned a projector before: Namely, I've read that bulb replacement is a common thing and could potentially occur up to twice a year. How much does a bulb for one of these things cost, anyway?

I'm basically worried that I'm going to get a great deal on a good projector, have 6 months of fun with it, and then have to replace a bulb that costs 2 times as much as I paid for the projector (the auctions I've seen show decent units for under 200.00...at buyout pricing).

Finally, most of these units show no audio input. Should I expect to purchase a sound system of some sort to accompany these units, or will the units themselves project enough sound to be serviceable?

I want to sneak into places and hold guerilla cinema screenings. I thought bluetooth headsets would be a good way to distribute sound to a mass of punters with out having the sound attract attention to ourselves.

Seeing as bluetooth head sets for mobile phones seem to be a dime a dozen, I thought bluetooth stereo headsets would be cheap enough that the crowd could bring their own. But I'm yet to find 'cheap' bluetooth stereo headsets. Any idea's on cheap headsets or another way to distrube the sound to punters in a quietish manner

Replacement remote-control for NEC MT1000 projector?
I recently acquired an NEC MT1000 video/LCD projector without a remote-control. I'd like to find a remote to control the volume (and possibly power), however OEM replacements are around $160 (even on eBay), and programable remotes are $100+. How can I make this work on a reduced budget? I can't find applicable remote-control codes for existing universal remotes, and have been unsuccessful with trying a code search on a TiVO remote. Any help you could give would be appreciated!

does it make a difference? What does it mean for the image that I'm going to get? Is it worth the extra 2-3 hundred bucks? I'm just going to be using this set-up to watch movies and play x-box so I'm not too anal but I want it to look good. Specifically, the model I'm looking at is:
I dumpstered a brand-new InFocus projector a while ago and have recently begun to think about how to build a semi-permanent screening area. The projector has great brightness and video quality but does not incorporate some of the home-theater features seen on newer models, such as masking the non-signal areas from the projection, keystoning adjustment, and fan noise dampening.

Ideally, I'd like to mount it to the ceiling and wrap it in a noise-dampening box, venting the heat probably into my attic. Do I have to roll my own, or are there systems out there to do this?

Finally, I don't need a receiver or DVD playback system; I do need speakers. Should I even bother with fancy options such as flat-panel or Bose cubes? Additionally, what's the deal with the hype around Bose Acoustimass systems?

Thanks very much for your nerdly expertise!

I've done some googling and found various expensive conversion lenses and whatnot, but I'm curious whether anyone knows offhand of something better. The goal is to project from the back of a medium sized movie house onto the screen and not have a huge overlap of the image outside of the screen boundary. Secondarily, less 'screen door effect' would be nice, but we're not too picky where that's concerned.

I have a projector that I recently purchased for home use, and we've tried that one and it's okay, but just too large from that distance.

Any DIY solutions for increasing your throw distance?

Thanks guys, you all rock hardcore.
